Category Overview

5xD Micro Carbide Drills for Medium-Depth Precision Holes

The 5xD micro carbide drill series is designed for precision small-diameter holes requiring greater reach than a 3xD micro drill. Its extended flute supports depths of up to five times the drill diameter while balancing rigidity, chip evacuation, hole positioning, and straightness. Because the longer cutting section is more sensitive to runout, unstable entry, vibration, heat, and chip congestion, stable machining conditions are essential. Landun 5xD micro drills are available with material-specific geometries and coatings for steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, titanium, and other precision engineering materials.

How to confirm whether 5xD is suitable

Selection Factor Recommended for 5xD
Hole Depth Short holes up to 5× drill diameter
Hole Type Through holes, blind holes, small pre-tapping holes, positioning holes, and component holes
Main Advantage Greater drilling reach than 3xD while maintaining a precision micro-drill structure
Chip Evacuation Demand Requires controlled chip formation and sufficient flute clearance
Coolant Method Selected according to drill diameter, workpiece material, coating, and machine conditions
Typical Requirement Medium-depth micro holes with consistent position, straightness, and surface quality

Frequently Asked Questions

They are used for medium-depth, small-diameter through holes, blind holes, pre-tapping holes, positioning holes, and precision holes in electronic, optical, medical, automotive, aerospace, and mechanical components.

Material-specific options are available for steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum alloys, titanium alloys, and other engineering materials.

Because the drill is both small in diameter and relatively long, runout can produce uneven cutting loads, drill deflection, oversize holes, position deviation, rapid wear, or breakage.

The drilling cycle should be selected according to the material, diameter, flute geometry, coolant condition, and chip formation. Peck drilling should not be used automatically because excessive retraction may allow chips to re-enter the hole or damage the cutting edge.

Yes. Landun can review non-standard diameters, special flute lengths, shank dimensions, point geometries, coatings, coolant requirements, drawings, samples, and replacement-tool projects.
