Product Overview

5xD Micro Carbide Drill —Engineered for Medium-Depth Aluminum Micro-Hole Drilling

The 5xD micro carbide drills for aluminum are designed for small-diameter hole machining where chip evacuation, edge sharpness, hole wall quality, and tool stability are more demanding than 3xD micro drilling. In 5xD aluminum micro-hole applications, chips need to travel a longer distance before leaving the hole, making smooth flute quality and low cutting resistance especially important.

Aluminum and aluminum alloys are soft and adhesive during machining. In medium-depth micro-hole drilling, long aluminum chips can easily stick to the cutting edge, build up inside the flute, scratch the hole wall, or increase cutting resistance. Because micro drills have limited flute space and small cutting edges, chip adhesion and poor evacuation can quickly affect hole accuracy, surface quality, and tool life.

These micro carbide drills are manufactured from imported MG grade 0.8 μm tungsten carbide rods with 10% cobalt content, supporting high-speed cutting and small-diameter drilling stability. Uncoated options are suitable for applications requiring sharp cutting performance, while DLC-coated options provide lower friction and better anti-adhesion performance for aluminum and non-ferrous material machining.

Engineering Details That Improve Aluminum Micro-Drilling

Premium Carbide Material

Premium Carbide Material

Made from imported MG grade 0.8 μm tungsten carbide with 10% cobalt content.
The fine carbide grain structure helps support rigidity, edge sharpness, and stable drilling performance in medium-depth aluminum micro-holes.

Uncoated / DLC Surface Options

Uncoated / DLC Surface Options

Uncoated micro drills provide sharp cutting performance for general aluminum micro-hole machining.
DLC coating offers a low-friction surface to help reduce aluminum adhesion, built-up edge, and hole wall scratches.

Controlled Edge Passivation

Controlled Edge Passivation

The drill point is manually honed and chamfer-passivated to improve cutting edge strength.
Automatic rubber-bonded diamond abrasive polishing keeps edge consistency and controls the passivation value within ±0.003 mm.

High-Precision Grinding & Inspection

High-Precision Grinding & Inspection

Produced on German Walter 5-axis high-precision grinding machines to ensure sharp and accurate cutting edges.
Walter Helicheck Plus inspection and 300x magnification checks help control geometry accuracy and prevent edge defects.

Frequently Asked Questions

5xD means the drill is designed for hole depths up to 5 times the drill diameter. Compared with 3xD micro drills, it is suitable for deeper small-hole machining where chip control and tool rigidity are more important.

Yes. These 5xD micro carbide drills are designed for aluminum, aluminum alloys, cast aluminum, and non-ferrous materials under suitable machining conditions.

Uncoated micro drills are suitable for general aluminum machining where sharp cutting performance is required. DLC-coated micro drills are recommended when better anti-adhesion performance, lower friction, smoother chip evacuation, and cleaner hole walls are needed.

Titanium alloy has low thermal conductivity, high toughness, and strong adhesion tendency. In 5xD micro-hole drilling, heat buildup and chip evacuation become more difficult, which can affect hole accuracy, edge stability, and tool life.

Aluminum is soft and adhesive during drilling. In 5xD micro-hole machining, chips travel a longer distance and may stick inside the flute, causing built-up edge, chip clogging, hole wall scratches, or unstable hole accuracy.

DLC coating provides a low-friction surface that helps reduce aluminum adhesion, chip sticking, and built-up edge. It is especially suitable for aluminum and other non-ferrous materials.

3xD micro drills are used for shorter and more rigid small-hole drilling. 5xD micro drills are used for deeper micro-holes and require better chip evacuation, smoother flute performance, and more careful runout control.

We use German Walter Helicheck Plus for contour measurement, with profile and radius control within 3 μm. The products are also inspected at 300x magnification to check edge appearance and avoid chipping or saw-tooth defects.

Yes. We support customization based on diameter, hole depth, shank size, coating, steel grade, drawings, samples, and machining requirements.
