Category Overview

8xD Standard Carbide Drills for Deeper Production Holes

The 8xD standard carbide drill series is designed for deeper holes beyond the practical reach of 3xD and 5xD drills. Its extended flute supports depths of up to eight times the drill diameter while balancing cutting-edge strength, chip evacuation, drill guidance, and hole straightness. Because deeper drilling increases heat and chip-removal demands, flute geometry, coolant delivery, spindle runout, machine rigidity, and workpiece clamping must be carefully controlled. Material-specific geometries, carbide grades, coatings, and coolant-hole designs are available for different materials and stable batch production requirements.

How to confirm whether 8xD is suitable

Selection Factor Recommended for 8xD
Hole Depth Deeper holes up to approximately 8× the drill diameter
Hole Type Through holes, deeper blind holes, fluid passages, pre-tapping holes, and production component holes
Main Advantage Greater drilling reach while maintaining a standard solid carbide drill structure
Chip Evacuation Demand Requires controlled chip formation and sufficient flute clearance
Coolant Method Internal coolant is strongly recommended for most demanding applications
Typical Requirement Deeper hole drilling with controlled chip evacuation and improved hole straightness

Frequently Asked Questions

8xD standard carbide drills are used for deeper through holes, blind holes, fluid passages, pre-tapping holes, housing holes, and general production holes with depths of up to approximately eight times the drill diameter.

The main advantage is its ability to reach deeper holes than 3xD and 5xD drills while maintaining a solid carbide construction, stable cutting geometry, and controlled hole production.

In suitable machining conditions, an 8xD drill may be used in a continuous drilling cycle when the drill geometry, cutting parameters, coolant supply, and chip evacuation are properly matched. The final drilling cycle should be determined according to the material and application.

Landun 8xD carbide drills can be selected for steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum alloys, titanium alloys, and other engineering materials according to the drill geometry, carbide grade, coating, and coolant design.

Yes. Landun can review non-standard diameters, special flute lengths, step designs, coolant-hole requirements, special point geometries, and drawing-based custom carbide drill projects.
