20xD Deep Hole Carbide Drills for Long-Hole Production

The 20xD deep hole carbide drill series is designed for long holes beyond the practical range of 12xD and 15xD drills. Its extended flute supports depths of up to twenty times the drill diameter, while through-tool coolant channels help reduce heat and evacuate chips. Because 20xD drilling is highly sensitive to runout, pilot-hole accuracy, chip congestion, coolant stability, and machine rigidity, a controlled drilling process is essential. Material-specific geometries, coatings, flute designs, and custom dimensions are available for demanding deep-hole applications in stable batch production.

How to confirm whether 20xD is suitable

Selection Factor Recommended for 20xD
Hole Depth Long holes up to approximately 20× the drill diameter
Hole Type Through holes, deep blind holes, oil passages, cooling channels, manifold passages, and intersecting holes
Main Advantage Extended drilling reach with through-tool coolant and guided entry
Chip Evacuation Demand Requires controlled chip formation, sufficient flute space, and stable coolant supply
Hole Straightness Influenced by pilot accuracy, spindle runout, drill geometry, coolant, and machine rigidity
Typical Requirement Long-hole machining with stable chip evacuation and controlled hole deviation

Frequently Asked Questions

They are used for long through holes, deep blind holes, oil passages, cooling channels, hydraulic manifold passages, crankshaft holes, and other demanding deep-hole applications.

A 15xD drill is shorter and normally provides greater rigidity. A 20xD drill provides additional reach but requires stricter control of pilot-hole accuracy, runout, coolant delivery, chip evacuation, and machine movement.

Through-tool internal coolant is strongly recommended for stable 20xD drilling because it helps cool the cutting edge and evacuate chips through the long flute.

Material-specific options can be selected for steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum alloys, titanium alloys, and other engineering materials.
