Product Overview

20xD Solid Carbide Drill —Engineered for Extra-Deep Cast Iron Hole Machining

The 20xD carbide drill for cast iron is designed for demanding extra-deep-hole applications where abrasive wear resistance, powdery chip discharge, hole straightness, flute rigidity, and process stability are critical. Compared with 12xD or 15xD drilling, 20xD cast iron machining places significantly higher demands on pilot hole accuracy, spindle runout, chip removal, tool holding, and machine rigidity.

Cast iron materials such as grey cast iron, ductile iron, nodular cast iron, and compacted graphite iron contain abrasive particles that can accelerate cutting edge wear. Powdery chips, graphite particles, hard casting skin, and variations in the cast structure may also increase the risk of micro-chipping or unstable tool load.

In a 20xD hole, chips and abrasive particles must travel a very long distance before leaving the cutting zone. Insufficient chip removal may increase friction inside the hole, accelerate flute wear, affect hole straightness, damage the hole wall, or cause premature drill failure.

This 20xD carbide drill is manufactured from imported MG grade 0.8 μm tungsten carbide rods with 10% cobalt content, supporting tool rigidity and edge stability. Combined with ALTISIXN coating, reinforced flute geometry, controlled edge preparation, application-matched chip removal support, Walter inspection, and German Walter 5-axis grinding, it helps maintain reliable drilling performance and consistent hole quality in extra-deep cast iron applications.

Engineering Details That Improve 20xD Cast Iron Drilling

Premium Carbide Material

Premium Carbide Material

Made from imported MG grade 0.8 μm tungsten carbide with 10% cobalt content.
The fine carbide grain structure helps provide the rigidity, edge strength, and dimensional stability required for extra-deep cast iron hole drilling.

ALTISIXN Wear-Resistant Coating

ALTISIXN Wear-Resistant Coating

ALTISIXN coating helps protect the cutting edge and flute surfaces against abrasive wear during cast iron machining.
It supports stable cutting performance, reduces premature edge wear, and helps improve tool life throughout the long drilling cycle.

Application-Matched Chip Removal Support

Application-Matched Chip Removal Support

Internal coolant or air-blast support can be selected according to the cast iron grade, machine configuration, and chip removal requirement.
Stable removal of powdery chips and graphite particles helps reduce internal friction, flute wear, and chip accumulation in 20xD holes.

Extra-Deep-Hole Flute Structure

Extra-Deep-Hole Flute Structure

Reinforced flute geometry balances chip space and drill rigidity for extra-deep-hole machining.
The variable core design and back taper help reduce friction, improve powdery chip flow, protect the cutting edge, and support better hole straightness.

Frequently Asked Questions

20xD means the drill is designed to produce holes up to 20 times its diameter. For example, a 5 mm drill can be used for a hole depth of approximately 100 mm under suitable machining conditions.

Yes. This 20xD carbide drill is designed for grey cast iron, ductile iron, nodular cast iron, compacted graphite iron, and other cast iron materials under suitable machining conditions.

The drill uses ALTISIXN wear-resistant coating, which helps improve abrasive wear resistance, cutting edge protection, and drilling stability in cast iron extra-deep-hole applications.

The chip removal method should be selected according to the cast iron grade and machine condition. Internal coolant may be used for suitable applications, while air-blast support may be preferred in other cast iron drilling conditions. Stable chip removal is essential for 20xD holes.

A 20xD drill has a longer unsupported body and a longer chip discharge path than a 15xD drill. It requires more accurate pilot guidance, lower spindle runout, stronger flute rigidity, and more stable machine conditions.

Cast iron contains abrasive particles and usually produces powdery chips. In 20xD drilling, abrasive chips must travel a long distance through the flutes, increasing the risk of flute wear, internal friction, edge chipping, and unstable hole straightness.

Yes. We support customized diameter, flute length, overall length, shank size, coolant channel, ALTISIXN coating, chip removal configuration, and matching pilot drill according to drawings and machining requirements.

Yes. Regrinding service is available depending on drill size, wear condition, and application requirements.
